In November, there will be an election for an Executive Trustee to serve on the IMRF Board of Trustees. The person elected to this seat will serve a five-year term from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2031
You can run for Executive Trustee if you are:
- Employed by an IMRF employer as chief executive officer, chief financial officer or other officer, executive or department head
- Vested in IMRF as of December 31, 2026 (eight years for Tier 1 members, ten years for Tier 2 members. Only service credit in IMRF counts toward this.)
- Submit at least 3 nominating petitions from either a Governing Body or Authorized Agent who has been delegated the power to make this nomination
The materials you’ll need to run for Executive Trustee include:
How to submit your petitions?
The most efficient ways to submit your petitions are by:
- Attaching the signed petition and emailing it to IMRF at IMRFTrusteeElection@imrf.org.
- Faxing the signed petition to IMRF at 630-706-4656.
Nominating petitions will be accepted in the IMRF office in Oak Brook between August 3, 2026, and September 15, 2026. Petitions received after 4:30 PM on September 15, 2026, will not be accepted.
After submitting petitions, what is the next step?
IMRF staff will verify the nominating petitions and notify all candidates who submitted nominating petitions confirming whether they will be on the ballot.
If there is only one candidate, an election for that specific seat will not be held, and the Board will confirm that candidate as Executive Trustee at its December meeting.
