Townsend has served on the Board since March 2025 and is Vice Chair of the Investment Committee. Additionally, he sits on the Audit, Benefits Review, and Legislative Committees. Townsend has been the Village Manager for the Village of Schaumburg for over 12 years.

“I have enjoyed the time I have been on the Board of Trustees and look forward to continuing to serve our members and employers over the next five years,” said Townsend. “I am committed to making sure IMRF remains the ‘gold standard’ of public pension systems.”

IMRF is governed by an eight-member Board of Trustees elected by the people and institutions IMRF serves. Four Executive Trustees are elected by participating units of government, three Employee Trustees are elected by active members, and one Annuitant Trustee is elected by retirees.

The IMRF Board has many responsibilities including authorizing IMRF investments, approving the administrative budget, and setting employer contribution rates. As fiduciaries, the IMRF Trustees are committed to putting the interests of you and your beneficiaries first and ensuring that your benefits are secure.
