OAK BROOK, Ill — The IMRF Board of Trustees have appointed Brian Townsend as Executive Trustee effective March 1, 2025, filling the vacancy created by Tom Kuehne’s retirement.

Townsend has served as Village Manager of Schaumburg for nearly 12 years, overseeing daily operations and municipal services. With over 31 years in public service, he served as the City Administrator in St. Charles, and before that, as Schaumburg’s Assistant Village Manager. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration from Northern Illinois University. Townsend is also an active member of the Illinois Municipal League’s Revenue and Taxation Policy Committee, the Illinois City/County Management Association, and the International City/County Management Association.
“I believe my experience and background provides an excellent foundation to serve on the IMRF Board,” Townsend said. “I hope to work in collaboration with the Board and Executive Director to overcome current challenges and ensure future success.”
Brian Townsend’s appointment as IMRF Executive Trustee runs through December 31, 2025. In the fall of 2025, IMRF will administer an Executive Trustee election. The winner of that election will serve until December 31, 2027.
