Every year, IMRF retirees receive a supplemental benefit payment, commonly referred to as their 13th Payment, as part of their July monthly payment.
Retirees become eligible for this payment after receiving at least 12 monthly pension payments in a row. This means you must have retired on or before June 30, 2025, to receive a payment in 2026.
This year, the 13th payment amount for qualifying retirees will be 22.697% of your June payment amount.

Background of the 13th Payment
The supplemental benefit payment was added to the Illinois Pension Code in 1993 to help counteract the negative impact of inflation on the value of an IMRF pension.
IMRF employers contribute a portion of their monthly contribution to the 13th payment every year. The amount of the payment varies from year to year.
