- Public Act 104-0810 (Senate Bill 2802). Provisions that affect IMRF include:
- Lump Sum Death Benefit Increase
- Active employees and vested inactive members
- Retirees with a first retirement effective date of 1/1/2027 or later
Effective 1/1/2027, increases the lump sum death benefit (burial benefit) from $3,000 to $8,000 for:
- Public Act 104-0634 (Senate Bill 2826). Provisions that affect IMRF include:
- Separation from Service
- Retiring members must only separate from the employer(s) the member is retiring from, not all IMRF employers. A retiring member also cannot have a prearranged agreement to return to employment with the IMRF employer(s) they retired from.
- Members who want to take a separation refund or use their refunded contributions to purchase service credit in another fund must separate from the service of the IMRF employer they last participated in IMRF with.
Effective 1/1/2027, provides that:
- Public Act 104-0779 (House Bill 4909). Provisions that affect IMRF include:
- Taft-Hartley Plans
- Members may be in both IMRF and a union Taft-Hartley plan if the participating municipality contributed to a Taft-Hartley plan prior to August 7, 2026. The amended bill grandfathers those bargaining units already participating in both plans; no new bargaining units may participate after August 7, 2026.
Effective 8/7/2026, provides that:
