Board certifies Employee Trustee election results; appoints Annuitant Trustee

The IMRF Board of Trustees certified current Employee Trustee Natalie Copper for a new five-year term running from January 1, 2020, through December 31, 2024. Copper was unopposed in an Employee Trustee election that had been planned for earlier in the year.

Copper has served on the IMRF Board as an Employee Trustee since January 2010. She is the 2020 Board Vice President, and twice she has been Board President, in 2014 and 2018. Learn more here.

The Board also appointed William Stafford as Annuitant Trustee, filling the vacancy created by the passing of Sharon U. Thompson. Stafford’s appointment runs through December 31, 2020, which is the end of Thompson’s original term. Next fall, IMRF will hold an Annuitant Trustee election for a five-year term beginning January 1, 2021.

Stafford is a former IMRF Executive Trustee (2009-2015). During his tenue, Stafford held all Board officer positions, and was Board President in 2013. Stafford also served as chairperson of the Board’s Investment and Audit Committees. Learn more here.

Board appoints 2020 officers

The Board appointed the following officers for 2020:

Executive Trustee David Miller has served on the Board since 2015. He is currently Deputy Executive Director of the North Shore Water Reclamation District. Employee Trustee Natalie Copper has served on the Board since 2010 and is a School-Age Child Care Site Coordinator at Evanston School District 65. Employee Trustee Trudy Williams has served on the Board since 2016 and is Administrative Assistant for the Fulton County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Annual report on minority manager usage approved

The Board approved a report documenting IMRF’s utilization of investment-management firms and brokers owned by minorities, women, or persons with disabilities. As of September 30, $10.2 of $42.7 billion in IMRF assets were managed by firms owned by minorities, women, or persons with disabilities. As of September 30, $10.2 billion of total $42.7 billion in IMRF assets were managed by firms owned by minorities, women, or persons with disabilities. That represents 23.8% of the total investment portfolio. IMRF has an aspirational goal of awarding a minimum of 20% of contracts to minority firms.
