OAK BROOK, Ill  —  On December 20, the IMRF Board of Trustees appointed William Stafford as Annuitant Trustee, filling the vacancy created by the passing of Sharon U. Thompson.

Stafford is a former IMRF Executive Trustee (2009-2015). During his tenure, Stafford held all Board officer positions, and was Board president in 2013. Stafford also served as chairperson of the Board’s Investment and Audit Committees.

During his time working in local government, Stafford held the positions of Chief Financial Officer for Evanston Township High School District 202 and Director of Finance for the City of Evanston. He also is the former Executive Director of the Illinois Metropolitan Investment Fund (IMET), and the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association (IGFOA). He has been a member of the Oakton Community College Board of Trustees since 2008.

The Board first solicited applicants for the Annuitant Trustee vacancy in October. In November, the Trustees conducted interviews.

Stafford’s appointment runs through December 31, 2020, which is the end of Thompson’s original term. Next fall, IMRF will hold an Annuitant Trustee election for a five-year term beginning January 1, 2021.
