OAK BROOK, Ill. -- The IMRF Board of Trustees is soliciting qualified candidates to fill an anticipated Executive Trustee vacancy. Executive Trustee Tom Kuehne plans to retire from his IMRF-qualified position in early 2025, which will make him ineligible to continue his service as an Executive Trustee. The Illinois Pension Code requires the Board of Trustees to fill the vacancy by appointment, until the next IMRF Executive Trustee election in the fall of 2025.
Who is eligible to apply?
To be eligible to fill this vacancy, you must be an active member currently participating in IMRF, employed by an IMRF employer as a chief executive officer, chief finance officer, or other officer, executive, or department head and vested in IMRF (eight years for Tier 1 members, ten years for Tier 2 members). The IMRF Board anticipates making the appointment at a meeting in early 2025.

What happens after you apply?
- IMRF staff will confirm receipt of your letter of interest.
- The Board of Trustees will review your letter of interest.
- The Board will determine which candidates will be interviewed for the vacancy.
- IMRF staff will schedule an interview with selected candidates, which will occur at the December 20, 2024, Board Meeting.
- The Board anticipates making the appointment at a meeting in early 2025.
What is the length of the appointment?
The appointment will expire after December 31, 2025. In the fall of 2025, IMRF will administer an Executive Trustee election. The winner of that election will serve until December 31, 2027. Any individual appointed to fill the vacancy will also be eligible to run for the remainder of the term.
