Following the State of Illinois’ transition to "Phase 3" of its Coronavirus Response Plan, IMRF began its first step for a gradual return of staff to our offices on June 1, 2020.
IMRF is committed to providing you essential services during this challenging time. As we will have limited personnel in our offices during this time period, the way we provide you service will be different.
The Best Way to Contact Us is through Member and Employer Access
With limited staff onsite, the best way to contact us is through Member Access or Employer Access. You can also email us or fax us at 630-706-4289.
Our Offices are Closed to the Public
At this time, you cannot come to our offices in person for any reason, including to complete or drop off paperwork. The best way to get documents to us is to send us a secure message through your Member Access account with electronic copies of your documents attached.
Our Call Center is Open, but Hold Times Will be Long
Our 1-800-ASK-IMRF member phone number is open. Hours of operations are Monday-Friday, from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM. However, hold times will be long. The best way to contact us is through Member Access. You can also email us or fax us at 630-706-4289.
Employers should continue to contact us through Employer Access, by emailing their Field Representative, or by faxing us at 630-706-4289. If you are an employer and are unable to sign in to Employer Access, starting Monday, July 13, our employer phone line will be minimally staffed from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM to assist with technology-related issues only.
Mail Processing will be Slower than Usual
We are processing and responding to paper-based correspondence. Due to limited staff onsite, this will be slower than usual. If you mail us any documents during this period, you will experience delays. We strongly recommend that you use your Member Access or Employer Access account to manage your IMRF benefits.
Through Member Access, you can:
- Apply for benefits, including retirement, disability, refunds*, and reinstating past service credit.
- Update your contact and beneficiary information.
- Calculate pension estimates.
- View your service credit and contributions.
- View benefit payment information.
- Submit documents electronically.
- Send us a Secure Message. The Secure Message Center in Member Access is a safe way to communicate with us about your IMRF benefits.

Use your Member Access Registration Key to Register for an Account
You received a Member Access registration key in the most recent benefit statement IMRF mailed to you:
- Annuitant Statements were mailed to retirees in November 2019
- Member Statements were mailed to active members in February 2020
- Member Statements were mailed to inactive members in March 2020
We recommend you locate your statement and use this registration key to gain instant access to your online Member Access account. If you do not use the key in your statement, you will have to wait for a registration key to be mailed to you.
