OAK BROOK, Ill. -- The IMRF Board of Trustees is soliciting qualified candidates to fill a vacancy in the Annuitant Trustee position, which was created with the passing of Annuitant Trustee Sharon U. Thompson on Oct. 3, 2019. The Illinois Pension Code requires the Board of Trustees to fill the vacancy by appointment, until the next IMRF Annuitant Trustee election in the fall of 2020.
Who is eligible to apply?
To be eligible to fill this vacancy, you must be an IMRF annuitant on the date that the IMRF Board makes the appointment. The IMRF Board anticipates making the appointment at its December 20, 2019, meeting.

To be considered to fill this vacancy, submit a letter of interest to IMRF by 4:30 pm on November 4, 2019. Include your contact information and any other information that you believe would help the IMRF Board of Trustees best evaluate your candidacy.

Whether you choose mail or email, the letter of interest must be received by IMRF by 4:30 pm on November 4, 2019. Letters received after that time will be rejected.
What happens after you apply?
- IMRF staff will confirm receipt of your letter of interest.
- The Board of Trustees will review your letter of interest.
- The Board will determine which candidates will be interviewed for the vacancy.
- IMRF staff will schedule an interview with selected candidates, which will occur at the November 22, 2019, Board Meeting.
- The Board anticipates making the appointment at its December 20, 2019, meeting.
What is the length of the appointment?
The appointment will expire after December 31, 2020. In the fall of 2020, IMRF will administer an Annuitant Trustee election. The winner of that election will serve a five-year term, beginning on January 1, 2021. Any individual appointed to fill the vacancy will also be eligible to run for the five-year term.
