The 2024 Supplemental Benefit Payment (13th Payment) will be deposited earlier than in previous years. It will be deposited on July 1, in the same deposit as your July 1 monthly payment. In the past, IMRF made a separate deposit for the 13th Payment. Now, the July 1 monthly payment and the 13th Payment will both be included in a single deposit.
For 2024, the 13th Payment amount for qualifying retirees will be 25.000% of your June payment amount. For more information about the 2024 13th Payment, please refer to the page specific to your benefit plan:

IMRF’s Unique Benefit
Each July, IMRF retirees receive a supplemental benefit payment, commonly known as the "13th Payment," a benefit provided by the Illinois Pension Code since 1993. The 13th Payment exists to reduce the negative impact of inflation on the value of an IMRF pension.
Since the 13th Payment was established, the number of IMRF employers and their total contributions to the 13th Payment have increased, as have the number of eligible recipients. Because the number of retirees eligible for the 13th Payment has grown at a faster rate than employers' payroll-based contributions, the amount of the 13th Payment decreased over time. For example, the 13th Payment in 1993 was more than 90% of a retiree’s June benefit amount, while the 13th Payment amount is 25% in 2024.
