OAK BROOK, Ill. -- The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), a document that shares high-level, organizational facts and figures.

GFOA CAFR Award 2017Earning 44 awards, IMRF is in the highest percentile of winners. Out of thousands of annual entries, IMRF holds a top-ten spot among all-time award recipients, according to GFOA’s online records.

“This has been an amazing year for all of us at IMRF and being recognized for excellence 44 times is beyond exceptional,” Executive Director Brian Collins said.  Our finance and communications teams are continuously improving our reports for accuracy and clarity, helping us to share information about our earnings and spending, with transparency as the ultimate goal. Whether on your tabletop, desktop, or laptop, our 2017 CAFR is easy to read and to understand. Great job, everyone.”

The state’s second-largest and best-funded statewide public pension plan joins a select group of other Illinois public entities acknowledged by GFOA for “the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”  GFOA PAFR Award 2017

IMRF’s Chief Financial Officer, Mark Nannini, says this award gives him another opportunity to show his appreciation for his dynamic team. “It is acknowledgement of the hard work of the Finance and Communications department to produce a document of which the whole organization can be proud. In addition to providing the financial conditions of IMRF, it also shows successful teamwork between two key departments.” Nannini’s team collects data and transforms it into the clear, colorful, and complete CAFR, every year.

Also, for another year, IMRF also received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for the fifteenth time. The popular annual financial report (PAFR) is prepared for the general public, with fewer pages, fewer technical elements, and more relatable terminology.

GFOA, a professional association established in 1906, represents people in financial management throughout the United States and Canada, including appointed and elected local, state/provincial, and federal finance officials.
