Oak Brook, Ill. -- The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) – the best-funded statewide pension plan in Illinois – continues promoting fiscal responsibility and a commitment to transparency during Sunshine Week (March 12-18), a national initiative promoting open government and freedom of information.

Even as he completes his last year with IMRF in 2017, Executive Director Louis W. Kosiba is still excited about the opportunity to educate and inform members, retirees, employers, and taxpayers during this dedicated week. “We’re proud to be a shining example of how an open exchange of information is healthy for everyone,” Kosiba said. “As of December 31, I’ll also be a retiree, and I’m glad to know that the lines of communication will be open with IMRF.”

IMRF’s website features a user-friendly online Freedom of Information Act Request System and a Transparency Portal. Displayed prominently at www.imrf.org, the section provides easy access to key public documents, including:

“Our communication team receives inquiries every day and with our online FOIA system, we’re able to track and manage information requests,” Kosiba said. “In today’s economic climate, we’re proud to be a valuable resource among the nation’s pension plans during Sunshine Week and all year long.”

IMRF also encourages open and honest communication among members, retirees and participating units of government through all of its portals of engagement. IMRF has a robust social media program, including Twitter (@TheIMRF) and Facebook (TheIMRF). Kosiba engages external stakeholders by conducting dozens of media interviews and accepting invitations from private and public groups, throughout the year.
