PLANSPONSOR, a national publication dedicated to retirement and benefit programs, just named the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund as a “Standout” as part of its 2016 “Awards for Excellence” program.

"It's always an honor to be recognized for the work we're doing for our members in Illinois."

Louis W. Kosiba

The magazine, established in 1993, says that the awards program honors “the best of the best in the retirement industry. The program honors leading retirement plan sponsors across multiple categories, including corporate 401(k) Plans and public-sector defined benefit pension plans.

IMRF, a defined benefit pension plan, is nominated in PLANSPONSOR’s new “Standout” designation. The publication says it introduced this category in 2016, to help them recognize strong plans in categories with limited entries.

"It's always an honor to be recognized for the work we're doing for our members in Illinois," says IMRF Executive Director Louis W. Kosiba. “This year, as we celebrate IMRF’s 75th anniversary, we’re especially proud to be considered a 'standout' among defined benefit plans across the nation."

"Being the best-funded public pension plan in Illinois is the result of a magnificent collaboration," says Kosiba. "What a fantastic testament to all of the efforts from our teams in Oak Brook and Springfield, our field representatives who travel across the state, and our Board of Trustees, who work tirelessly for us to remain financially sound. Congratulations, everyone."

This is IMRF's second consecutive nomination for a PLANSPONSOR award. IMRF started with a $5,000 investment, in 1941. Today, IMRF serves more than 405,000 members with a funding status of 93.1 percent and nearly $34.7 billion in assets.
