    All IMRF employers now have two key documents available in Employer Access with information necessary for financial planning, accounting, and reporting purposes. The Employer Retirement Reserve Statement provides accounting of your employer's IMRF assets for 2022 and the Employer Copies of Member Statements are for your employer's records and provide summaries of your IMRF members' accounts for 2022.

      Summary

      Certain increases in reported earnings during a member's Final Rate of Earnings period result in additional pension costs. Some payments made to retiring employees must be certified in an open meeting by your governing body. IMRF employers must request a Pension Impact Statement before increasing the earnings of officers, executives, or managers by 12% or more.

      IMRF's investments are ultimately set by the authority of the IMRF Board of Trustees. The Board Investment Committee assists the Board of Trustees with its duty to invest the assets of the Fund.

      GENERAL INFORMATION

      The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund was created in 1939 by the Illinois General Assembly and began operating in 1941 with 5 original employers and $5,000 in assets. Today IMRF serves almost 3,000 employers and has approximately $41 billion in assets.

      Since 1941, IMRF has provided employees of local governments and school districts in Illinois (with the exception of the City of Chicago and Cook County) with a sound and efficient system for the payment of retirement, disability, and death benefits.

      IMRF is the second largest—and best funded—statewide public pension system in Illinois.
