IMRF’s Web-Centric Initiative

Web-Centric Initiative

During 2020, IMRF is beginning a planned, incremental transition toward becoming a more web-centric organization.

This means that starting this year, IMRF will rely more on the web and less on paper to provide customer services to its membership.

With this initiative, IMRF aims to:

"With this new approach, we're excited to provide members with more timely, relevant information that reaches them where they are," said Dawn Seputis, IMRF Customer Service Director.

What does this mean for members?

Member Access

In general, IMRF will focus on providing you the best possible customer service through online IMRF Member Access. You can use Member Access for almost anything you need from IMRF, and you can do it from the comfort of your own home, at any time of day or night. For example, you can use IMRF Member Access to send IMRF secure email messages and documents; to receive pension estimates; to change your beneficiaries; and even to retire online. IMRF has been working hard in 2020 to add more information to its website to help you better understand your IMRF benefits and to utilize Member Access.

This initiative also means IMRF will stop mailing you some of the documentation that already exists in Member Access.

Annual Statements

For example, starting this fall, retirees will need to go to Member Access to review their Annuitant Statements. And next year, Active and Inactive Members will need to go to Member Access to review their Member Statements. IMRF will no longer mail them out.

EFT Statements

Also, for Annuitants, starting in September, IMRF will no longer mail most Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) statements. Records of payments are available for review within Member Access.

Fundamentals Newsletters

In addition, IMRF has launched new electronic versions of its newsletter Fundamentals. These e-newsletters will provide members more targeted, timely information. They will be emailed to anyone with a Member Access account. At the same time, in 2020, IMRF will still mail all Retirees and Active Members two full print editions of Fundamentals.

How do I open a Member Access account?

Opening a Member Access account is your key to the advantages offered by IMRF’s web-centric initiative. Opening an account is easy, so click here and follow the prompts to do so.

You will need a Registration Key to activate your account. You can find a Registration Key on the most recent copy of your Annual Statement. Alternatively, you can use the website to have IMRF mail you a new Registration Key. If you have any trouble creating an account, call us at 1-800-ASK-IMRF, and we will help you.

Is IMRF eliminating all printing and mailing?

No, IMRF is not eliminating all printing and mailing. In 2020, the changes are limited to those outlined above. While these initiatives are a significant change, IMRF will still print and mail thousands of letters and forms to its members this year. For example, IMRF will still print and mail retirees all the information they need for tax purposes.

What if I do not have access to the Internet?

IMRF knows that a minority of its membership does not have convenient access to the internet. If you need a document within Member Access but do not have access to the internet, call us at 1-800-ASK-IMRF. We will print the document and mail it to you.
