Members who occupy an elected position which does not work enough hours to qualify for participation on its own but who work in a participating non-elected position can no longer elect to contribute under the elected position. similarly, a participating elected position cannot elect to contribute under a non-elected, non-participating position with the same employer. Non-elected positions can never be combined with elected positions for the purpose of making contributions or combining hours. See IMRF Legal Interpretation 10.
Previously, Form 6.23, ”Election to Contribute Under Additional Position” was used for a member who participated in IMRF and wanted to make member contributions in an elected position which did not qualify for participation in and of itself. If the member’s second position was a nonqualifying elective office position and that position became qualifying at a later date, the member could not revoke his or her this election to participate under that elected position.
