Yearly Supplemental Pension Payment
("13th Payment")
The supplemental benefit payment, also known as the "13th
payment," is mailed to eligible retired members (or to their surviving spouses)
every July. The supplemental monthly benefit payments are mailed out after
the July benefit payments.
This additional payment does not affect a retired
member's pension. If you receive a "13th payment," you will continue to
receive your pension every month and your annual 3 percent increase every
January.
Who
is eligible to receive the "13th Payment?"
You may be eligible for the supplemental benefit payment
if you are a retired IMRF member receiving a pension or if you are receiving
an IMRF surviving spouse pension, and if your IMRF pension has been effective
for 12 consecutive months (up to and including the June prior to the supplemental
payment).
To be eligible for the current calendar year supplemental
pension payment, your pension effective date (or your deceased spouse
if you are receiving an IMRF surviving spouse pension) must be on or before
July 1 of the prior calendar year.
For example, to receive the supplemental benefit payment
for 2007, you must have retired before July 1, 2006.
How
much is the "13th Payment?"
The 2007 13th payment is 56.75% of your monthly pension
amount. The amount of the additional pension payment will vary in future
years.
You will receive this additional pension payment each
July unless the Illinois General Assembly approves compounding your annual
3 percent pension increase.
