Glen Ellyn Resident Named Secretary of Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund Board

James Rasins assumes role as secretary at January meeting

OAK BROOK, Ill. – January 8, 2008 – James W. Rasins, County Auditor for DuPage County since 2000, was elected secretary of the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) board of trustees. He began his term as secretary on Jan. 1, 2008.

As DuPage County Auditor, Rasins performs internal audits of county operations, as well as investigates allegations of misuse of county resources. Prior to serving as County Auditor, Rasins worked as Chief Deputy DuPage County Auditor from 1975 to 2000.

Rasins was elected to the IMRF board of trustees in 2006. He has served on the board’s Audit, Investment, and Legislative Committees in 2007. Rasins is also president of the Illinois Association of County Auditors and a member of the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association, the Institute of Internal Auditors, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Illinois CPA Society.

The independent eight-member board of trustees serve without compensation and is composed of four executive trustees elected by participating units of government, three employee trustees elected by participating IMRF members and one non-voting annuitant trustee elected by IMRF retirees.

“We are pleased to welcome Jim as the secretary of the IMRF board and look forward to his leadership,” said Louis W. Kosiba, IMRF executive director. “Our independent board of trustees, with its authority to invest assets and set employer contribution rates based on sound actuarial principles, is a very important part of IMRF’s funding success.”

IMRF was more than 100 percent funded on a market value basis as of December 31, 2006.
