Email guidelines

Never send anything by email that you wouldn’t want a stranger to see (e.g., Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, bank routing numbers, or personal information).

If you are an employer, you have a responsibility to handle confidential member information in a secure manner. If you wish to transmit information of a confidential nature, please use our Employer Access Area. If you don't have an Employer Access ID, find out how to apply for one.

While using email is almost as common as using the telephone, you should be aware that information sent by email is not secure. Much like regular mail, email passes through many computer “post offices” known as email servers before being delivered to your mailbox. But unlike regular mail, there is little to stop someone from intercepting your email message along the way without your knowledge--and there are people out there waiting to do just that. Think of an email message as you would a postcard moving through the postal system: anyone can take a look at the information.
