This fall, IMRF will pilot a new retiree workshop series called "IMRF Financial Literacy Workshops: Exploring Reverse Mortgages."

Workshops will be held in October in Arlington Heights, Springfield, and Peoria. The pilot program is limited to these three locations. IMRF may offer additional Financial Literacy Workshops in the future, depending on the level of interest. The workshops are free for IMRF retirees and a guest.

  • October 17- Euro Crystal in Arlington Heights
  • October 21- IMRF Office in Springfield
  • October 22- Peoria 107 N.E. Monroe, Peoria

2014 workshop: Building bridges across the generation gaps

The good news is that people are living longer and healthier lives. Today, it is not uncommon to have four or even five living generations in the typical family. Each generation comes with its own beliefs or perspectives based on lived experiences. Because of this, generational conflict can occur. Learning to manage the misunderstandings that can result from intergenerational relationships is very beneficial. This workshop, held in partnership with the Universityof Illinois Extension, highlights the similarities and differences between generations and helps participants learn effective communication tools to build bridges across the generations.

IMRF Online provides a brief summary of IMRF benefits and the adminstration of those benefits. IMRF members' and employers' rights and obligations are governed by Article 7 of the Illinois Pension Code. Statements in these publications are general, and the Illinois state law governing IMRF is complex and specific. If a conflict arises between information in these publications and the law, all decisions are based on the law.
