What to do when an employee quits

Just as when a member joins IMRF, there are procedures that should be followed when a member terminates his or her participation in IMRF.

Refer to Section 6, Member Accounts, in the Manual for Authorized Agents for more information.

Paragraph 6.30, To Close an Account, provides the steps to take when a member terminates his or her IMRF participation.

You can also read about a member's options when he or she leaves IMRF employment in the November 2008 Reminder or here.

IMRF Online provides a brief summary of IMRF benefits and the adminstration of those benefits. IMRF members' and employers' rights and obligations are governed by Article 7 of the Illinois Pension Code. Statements in these publications are general, and the Illinois state law governing IMRF is complex and specific. If a conflict arises between information in these publications and the law, all decisions are based on the law.
