IMRF and Individual Retirement AccountsAn IMRF pension is only one "leg" of the retirement stool. In order to make the most of your retirement, you should plan to have other sources of income, such as social security, defined contribution plans, and Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). If you are covered by a pension plan, your ability to deduct your IRA contributions from your income may be limited for both you and your spouse. To learn more about how participation in IMRF may affect the amount of dudcutible contributions you can make to your IRA, please read Tax Letter Number 7, "Can I contribute to an IRA?"

IMRF
| IMRF Online provides a brief summary of IMRF benefits and the adminstration of those benefits. IMRF members' and employers' rights and obligations are governed by Article 7 of the Illinois Pension Code. Statements in these publications are general, and the Illinois state law governing IMRF is complex and specific. If a conflict arises between information in these publications and the law, all decisions are based on the law.
